Turf Bar
131 Queen Street, Melbourne CBD, VIC 3000
Just had the best Chicken Parma of my life. I’m down in Melbourne for the weekend (Derby Day tomorrow, booze for lunch) and had to sample some of the local lower-class cuisine with the Melbourne What’s for Luncher (Philly, get blogging). It’s a nice little sports pub on the corner of Queen and Bourke right in the city – Turf Bar. At $19.50 it’s on the steep side (or maybe Melbourne is just more expensive than I’m used to?) but well worth it in my mind.
I always hear people from Melbourne whinging about the lack of quality Chicken Parma’s around Sydney and now I completely understand. It’s almost like we’re too obsessed in NSW about schnitzel and gravy to remember that the real health kick comes from cheese & ham ON TOP of schnitzel.
Anyway, back to Turf Bar. The parma goes down well with a pint of Fat Yak. Mucho recommendo. They also have a good selection of brews to choose from if you’re into that kind of thing. And if you’re not then, too bad, you’re missing out.
