Spice Kitchen
159 Lonsdale St, Melbourne VIC 3000
I had been looking for a decent Indian food joint for a while and little did I know, Spice Kitchen was close and decent as. I think I better quickly mention the “vibe” first. The Bollywood movie playing on the TV gets you immersed in a mixture of Indian delights immediately, before you’ve even touch food or drink.
The fact that lunchtime is always busy time at this place is a great sign. Heaps of workers stop in for a quick bite and they get it at a great price. You should too. There is heaps on the menu to choose from and I haven’t seen a place like it anywhere else in the CBD.
Butter Chicken is a personal favorite and the other authentic Indian dishes to choose from include Lamb Roganjosh, Onion Bhaji, Chicken Tikka and a whole bunch of Vegetarian options. The best thing is, the dishes change daily, but they keep Butter Chicken just for me. Or at least that’s how it feels because, did I mention? The staff are so damn nice.
A highlight of the menu are the Thalis/Combos. You can choose from a choice of two Meat Curries (incl Rice, Naan, Pappadam, Raita) for $9.90, or one Meat curry/one Vege curry (incl Rice, Naan, Pappadam, Raita) for $8.90, or two Vege curries (incl Rice, Naan, Pappadam, Raita) for only $7.90…Great value. What’s even better? Throw in a beer for only $2 with any of those choices.
I prefer to head to Spice Kitchen on my own, as it’s a nice environment to just “chill” in amongst a busy working day. Despite this, there is plenty of room for your work crew, so go check it out if you can, you wont be disappointed.
