Sahara
1/301 Swanston Street
Hidden up above some retail shops on Swanston Street is Sahara, a cosy and relaxed destination that suits work lunch requirements perfectly. The fit-out of lanterns, wooden tables and indoor plants is an interior that feels a little different but not too extreme.
The definite highlight at Sahara for me is the “Daily Lunch Special” menu. Choose from either the Za’taar lamb pizza, Turkish vegetable pizza (v), Open chicken melt, or the Kofta burger (pictured left) and get a house wine, beer or soft drink included, all for $15. All four of those options taste amazing and when a beer is thrown in, you can’t beat it.
For those in a hurry, there is also a larger $10 express lunch which includes dishes such as Char grilled steak & chips, Moroccan fried barramundi with wedges, Lamb salad, and a Persian Chicken Parma.
In terms of accommodating various work crew sizes, I’d say Sahara is a comfortable choice for any size crew between 2 and 8 people. They’re usually steadily busy but never busy enough where people are getting turned away and there are groups of tables available that can accommodate large numbers. That mixed with it’s friendly staff, chilled vibe, and great food, makes Sahara another solid choice for work lunch in Melbourne CBD.
