Niagara Hotel

385 Lonsdale Street

There isn’t much to Niagara hotel. It’s a fairly small, standard pub with a decent pew’s and a stylish interior fit out. What’s good about it though, and anyone who has been there before will be quick to mention it, is their cheap pizza. For $10 Monday to Thursday & $13.50 Friday, you can grab a decent sized pizza with a glass of wine or a pot of beer included.

I dined in for work lunch one recent humid Friday with a special someone and we throughly enjoyed our experience. The place was packed with a rowdy, but civilized crowd, the staff were friendly and the food was cooked and served up within a reasonable time frame. The menu of pizza is quiet extensive, which is great because as far as I’m aware, there isn’t anything else to eat on offer. Whether it’s your standard Margarita you’re after, or something a little more lavish like the “Crazy Prosciuto”, Niagara’s pizza menu doesn’t disappoint with 18 types available.

My lunch friend and I were after different tastes, so I grabbed the Panne Prosciutto and she tried the Primavera. The Panne Prosciutto was fairly basic, made up of prosciutto (obviously) garlic, basil and sea salt, but full of flavor. Be careful with that one if you’re heading back to the office and don’t have a mint or gum on hand, the garlic was quite formidable. The Primavera was probably the more tasty of the two. It’s mixture of mozzarella, roasted pumpkin, rocket and goats cheese, with a generous serving of pine nuts, was a winning formula.

All in all, there isn’t much else to Niagara Hotel than it’s pizza lunch menu. If you need something tasty and with a touch of quality, for cheap and quickly, head down there to be satisfied. If you want a more authentic pizza experience, you’re probably best to head to somewhere like +39 Pizzeria & Degustation Bar on Little Bourke Street for that kind of thing.
