Hey there folks – It’s been a while since our last update, so we thought we better keep everyone in the loop about what’s going on!

Recent Happenings

It’s been two months since we launched the new website and the feedback has been really great. It’s always a nervous time when launching/relaunching a website. You’ve got to make sure everything still works and it requires a lot of attention to detail! With a bit of help from you guys we found some bugs we’d missed which has been much appreciated.

We’ve also added 15 or so new lunch recommendations since then and as the seasons change, our taste buds are changing too. It’s been harder (at least in Melbourne) to find decent eateries that cater for the colder weather AND the key characteristics that we believe make a work lunch decent.

That Website

Not much news from that-website-which-will-not-be-named. As we’ve talked about before, they pretty much copied our name/idea and turned it into an email marketing (a.k.a Spam) website. They then paid for a massive campaign in Melbourne handing out flyers to promote their website, which lead people to ours (dramatically!). It’s a little bit of a kick in the guts when someone says to us “Oh, What’s for Lunch? Yeah I’ve signed up to your website”. We have to be all “Yeah, ahh, that’s another guy who copied us…” and it’s a little bit crap. But alas, we’re not letting it affect us,

Upcoming

What’s coming up? Well, we’ll keep trying to find great lunch spots and writing about them on the website. We’re working on a few minor tweaks (with the help of our newest team member: Fry Pan Dan), and we’ll hopefully keep expanding our reach around Melbourne and Sydney’s CBD’s as we go!

Until next time, stay classy.

It’s been a big week for us here at What’s For Lunch with more excitement packed into the last couple of days than a Double Down burger!

Site Update!

We’re very excited to bring to you a redesigned What’s For Lunch site which went live late last night after some head scratching URL redirect work and last minute bug fixes. The new layout focuses on presenting one lunch idea at a time for which we hope will increase office-to-food efficiency times dramatically. We’ve also updated our branding, Facebook integration, and social media profiles so get Liking and Retweeting ASAP.

Competition!

It came to our attention on Tuesday via multiple phone calls, text’s, and IM’s, (thanks friends) that flyers with info on a website very similar to ours (in name and subject) were being handed out at a few of Melbourne CBD’s main train stations (Flinders St, Melb Central etc). This behaviour occurred again on Wednesday morning and coincidently we saw a huge spike in traffic to our site over those two days (thanks for the free flyer drop, Mr. New Competition). Luckily for us we could finish up our previously mentioned site update and respond to market forces quickly (I think that’s how people talk business).

Read about why we think we’ll be ok here.

Next Steps?

Although we’re stoked to have the refreshed look and are amping to go, our focus now turns to checking out as many of the best spots for work lunch so we can write up about it for everyone. I’m thinking a Chicken Parma weekly feature (not going to be great for my heart) is an option and keep an eye out for some guest reviewers recommendations as well.

Hope you enjoy the new site!

Before we get started: Read more about this website and learn what it’s all about

I personally would love to be told what to eat for lunch every day. I always have a ton of ideas for my lunches at work but making a decision is almost impossible.

Throw in a few other people around the office – try and get everyone to agree. By the time you know where you’re going, your hunger probably needs a lunch the size of a small child to reach satisfaction factor 10.

Without further ado, here’s a couple of quick & easy lunch ideas to buy near Wynyard in the Sydney CBD.

Spice Boys – Indian – Hunter Connection

This place is awesome. Referred to me by a lovely girl at work, you can get some very tasty curries for cheap. The best food court Indian in the city by far. The curry starts at $5.90 for 1 meat choice, 1 vege choice and rice.

Ignore the scummy underground surroundings and don’t second guess the hygiene of the place, focus on the amazing curry for dirt cheap.

Guzman Y Gomez – Mexican – Australia Square

Everyone should know these mexican fast food joints, there’s a few dotted around Sydney. It’s the best place to revolve your mexican cravings.

I’ve sampled a bit of the menu and have to say the best things to go for are the Spicy Chicken Burrito or the Quesadillas (my personal favourite).

For a food court it’s a little on the steep side, but good enough to warrant it.

One tip for you – don’t upgrade to get Guac for $2, they skimp on it and you barely notice it.
